The Project:

The future that everyone dreams about is coming faster than anyone can imagine, such that unimaginable creations of the past and ideas for the future; are coming to life every day. The technology of today is amazing compared to what it was 10 years ago, with the technology of today people can order parts and inventions from online websites and organizations to get a certain project started or completed. With such a wide variety of information out there in the world, the information accessible with a smartphone or pc, anything is possible. Such as this project that involves a little bit of everything from two creative worlds, the art world, and the engineering world; where both will collide into one cool futuristic project. That is possible today thanks to the advances in everything people do with technology and art. This project is going to be called simple and one point, Project-One, is the name of what I’m going to create. In which I will create a one-wheeled motorcycle, but it’s more like an electric unicycle. There have been many, for lack of a better word “fantasy” like bikes such as one-wheeled motorcycles in movies, and cartoons. Some examples are Spy kids 3 game over, The Lorax, Dragon Ball, Yu-Gi-Oh! 5ds, in these 4 different movies and cartoons one-wheeled motorcycles were used. Looking at these one-wheeled vehicles just about a few of them are possible. Having done some research I have found that someone has already created a real-life one-wheeled motorcycle, called RYNO motorcycles. From the design this person used, I will use this their work as an inspiration for my own one-wheeled motorcycle; I will also draw inspiration from creative engineers from youtube. These are people who have helped me piece this project together, by watching their many videos of the crazy inventions they have created. Those people are The Hacksmith, Colinfurze, JLazervideo, DIY esk8 Builders, as these are some of the best engineers I have been watching on youtube and have learned a lot from them. So this project will be a bit of an instructional, entertaining, and interactive project; which will be created sometime in the future when enough time is handy, as this has been something I’ve always wanted to create.

The Research:

In the past and even now I have done have some engineering research; on this type of build by watching youtube videos about projects similar to this one. One of the first things I did was look up images of one-wheeled motorcycles on google and Pinterest; to get a concept for what I’m going to create myself. Although I know as well as the next person the amazing futuristic drawings of one-wheeled motorcycles won’t be possible for quite some time. But there is always a middle ground for everything and that is what I’m shooting for here.

Some of these images show that people have created their own one-wheeled motorcycles in cool and unique ways. Which shows a monowheel motorcycle and a one-wheeled motorcycle. A monowheel motorcycle is where the rider sits inside of the wheel; where the one-wheeled motorcycle is where the rider sits on top of the wheel. The last two images show a real one-wheeled motorcycle called the RYNO motorcycle that costs around 3,000 dollars and has a hub motor inside of wheel custom made to its design. While the designer of the RYNO motorcycle put about 1.3 million dollars into this project himself (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n7EcOGbJzZg) the creator’s name is Christopher Hoffmann. While with my build I’ll be making my own version of the one-wheeled motorcycle that will not be that expensive at first; around 1,400 dollars and eventually reach 3,000 dollars the price of a RYNO but it will possibly cost more as it progresses. The first prototype will be made up of materials found at thrift stores, Walmarts, hardware stores, and Amazon along with other online resources that are specific to the parts needed. Such as an electric bike hub motor for the wheel needed to drive this one-wheeled bicycle. Plus a unicycle, some used bikes from a thrift store; as well as a small screen indicator for the speed, as well as a box to hold all of the important electronic stuff. Since this is the first prototype; it will not have any sensors in the back or front of the one-wheeled motorcycle to keep it balanced as this is to make sure it all works properly. Although I do know of a way to create that, in the simplest way possible with 2 Xbox 360 connects. For the front and back detectors, and use a portable battery to give power to the connects, so they can be used. Once that is done get an Arduino to create a code that is used to stabilize the one-wheeled motorcycle. This is probably the hardest part to make sure this one-wheeled motorcycle is stable while riding it, so I will need to find someone to write the code. Possibly, find help on forums with people who know how to code, from these websites Reddit, Google Groups, Code project, and Treehouse; there are more out there but this is just to name a few, here is a link with the best 25 forums https://vironit.com/best-active-forums-for-programmers/. Once I get that put it into the Arduino to see if it works if it does great if not back to the drawing board. All of this sounds good on paper but like any other project, this will take a long time before its fully complete about 3 years if I add stabilizers, better motor, building materials, metal sheets, seat cushions, speed controllers, and ignition key, a fingerprint scanner so only can use it and add others so they can use it, plus powerful arduinos to make everything work. All so this can be a cool and real one-wheeled motorcycle. Even so with building this myself getting help from real mechanical engineers would help push this project forward, from online places such as people from here turing.com  https://customers.turing.com/hire/?s=ad-google-sem_customer&campaignid=11259296353&adid=110845723912&placement=hire+engineers&gclid=Cj0KCQjw-LOEBhDCARIsABrC0TnF2HBluAj7_1Moxy7BTTF23zQR7TjlcU4fsJNksJ7gESu1asyJ4IMaAoV8EALw_wcB

Also from PE4H https://www.peforhire.com/engineers// with the help of these professions the project can be even more expensive but more well put together like the RYNO motorcycle.

This is the basic design of the one-wheeled motorcycle I'm making

The Objective:

The plan is to create my own one-wheeled motorcycle based off of my own research and designs found on the internet, to recreate my own. As the project is being built there will be progress update videos for people to see on Youtube; from this other mechanical engineers will watch these videos and help with making the one-wheeled motorcycle better if they choose to. By making these progress videos people will get to see how a project like this is done. As well as fulfilling many people’s dreams, of those who want to believe they can make their own original inventions, those who are skeptical and want evidence, those who love seeing fiction come to life. The type of people that will be drawn to this project is those who are old enough to understand that, cool unthinkable ideas are possible. Such as engineers, artists, and those who want to see something impossible become possible. Other ways people can help and interact with such a project is by watching progress youtube videos something already mentions; but also with creating 3d models. That comes with detailed electrical information and animations of how this one-wheeled motorcycle will work. Those who want to see those 3d models will have to pay using Patreon. A simple way to gain money for this project to become more advanced, than the first prototype and gain attention. So experienced people can get all the information needed for helping me, and them with their own cool projects. Along with people who are interested in helping to make this a reality.

The strategy:

Find the materials needed for this project, the cost, and, to understand what I’m going to make, and how to make it. First I’m going to make a 3d model of the basic design for this project, on a free modeling website called Tinkercad; that leads to helping designer for using Autodesk. After designing the 3d model buy and order the materials needed and the tools that would be needed. Then make sure everything is how I want it before I start piecing it together. These are the materials needed to create this project ordered and bought from Amazon and the other stores mentioned. Being Amazon, Walmart, hardware stores such as Harbor Freight, Lowes, and Home Depot. After getting the parts I will put it together like making it look like the 3d model.

The 3d model:

The Execution:

Look at all the notes made for this project and follow the 3d model as closely as possible, put all the pieces together. But first I would need to order the parts, some will take up to a month to get here others in a few days. Once the parts come in after about a month of waiting take apart the unicycle replace the wheel with the hub motor wheel. Take apart the other bikes bought weld some pieces together like the handle, and the stand, after that put all the electronics in a box. Place the speedometer, the bell, the license plate, the chair, the feet petals, and that's it. Last but not least do a test run, making sure it's all working properly, along with plugging in the code either created by me or the people from the forums. If it's all working properly run another. Once it’s 100% done enjoy the amazing creation that I have made. But also make sure the youtube videos are creative, interactive, and fun, that the most important besides learning from building this and making sure it's all working right.

  1. Hi David!

I really liked your proposal -- I did not hear you mention a name/title for it, do you perhaps have one in mind?
I was reminded of Gogo's motorcycle from Big Hero 6 as you were explaining yours and I thought it was super cool (although double-checking now, Gogo's is two-wheeled but the idea was sort of the same haha).
I also see that your total time is roughly a month and a half. I am not well-versed in bikes and motors or manufacturing vehicles but is that the time it'll take for everything? It seems a little fast because I'd imagine you have to gather materials and then put it together -- especially if you're planning to do it yourself? I'm just curious.
But I liked the idea and concept because it's just cool in general -- two-wheeled bikes are overrated anyway.

  2. Great job with your proposal! A motorized unicycle is a very difficult task to complete yet judging the outlined plan you have created, I feel like you are very prepared and ready to create the project. I enjoyed your 3D models and how you plan on uses electronics that already exist. That is very cost effective and sustainable for the environment. I really hope you try making this, it's great!
